My Moleskine today (13)…

I'm glad I finally got to the last day of this year 2010! It was a bad one for me, with lots of struggle and hard moments. I can only hope for better for the coming year. I'll do whatever it takes to make the best out of 2011!! Happy New Year to all of you, I wish you the best too!

My new sketchbook…

I had a "off-family afternoon" today. I decided to go to Musée d'Orsay to get some drawing done. As there were too many people waiting to get in, even in the fast line, I decided to sit down outside the museum. It got cold after a while so I just manage to paint these two watercolor sketches. But what's most important is that I now feel I'll have to organise my time to do more watercolors next year, so I hope I can keep that in mind...

My Moleskine today (12)… (or more, the last days)

I did some sketches the last days... instead of reading in front of the fire. I had some difficulties not to feel stressed of the short time they sit still. Sometimes I had to leave the drawing on standby and hope the would come back to sit in the same position later... it worked once quite smoothly, Paul came back! But he always sits in this position to read so it was that incredible.

My Moleskine today (11)…

The need to draw was "too much" before going to bed yesterday...  I love the scent of hyacinths, it reminds me of the few Christmases I had the chance to spend in Sweden as a child. Some things are strongly connected with even very short moments, instants of our lives. I have lots of these "connections" inside me.

Engravings, two still lifes... (4)

Here we got last weeks print, the glass with stones. This is my best print since I started a few months ago. I'm actually very happy about it, because for some time I wasn't sure of the interest of doing this compared to a classic drawing. I see clearer now and my hope is coming back. The hope of being able to develop my engravings into what I imagined it could be.
The print just above, the glass with pine cones, is what I prepared yesterday for today's session... the result is a little dark but that's fine with me here. I might try to work on it a little more to get some light back. But sometimes I feel it's just as good to go on to the next project, while trying to keep in mind what I learned from this.

Engravings... (4)

It's late... have just finished engraving a plate for tomorrow's engravings session. I would like to see what it will look like right away, but I'll have to be patient like a child waiting for Christmas. I better don't hope too much because that's when I most of the times get disapointed... better stay calm!

Figure drawing sessions... (8)

This is the result of his weeks friday session of figure drawing, with as usual poses from five to fifteen minutes.
Soon I will feel the need to use some color or another material to draw... but right now I haven't got enough of working with crayon. After all this drawing I'll have to promote Faber Castell a little, as their crayons are the best and most constant in quality (those green "classical" crayons I think I have always seen around me ever since I was little!). I can also recommend Faber Castell's felt pens, they are the ones I feel most confortable with for the color and the quality. They don't last long, but that's because I do a lot of lines and I've tryed all the other brands, so that's a constant dilemma... If you need really fine points you'll have to chose another brand though and to draw in black.

Engravings... (3)

Today I printed several times two new plates. I started to get a clue about the application of the ink and the whiping off le plate before printing. This is a small drawing, but I have the second one drying (to see next week) which is bigger and where I managed to get enough of values in the final print. I even managed to print correctly at the end and several times! Feels good to do some progress here!

Good habits...

This is what I should do before starting any drawing! Fast sketches to search for compositions. Drawing and composing the same object in as many ways as possible and to chose the most intéresting one in the end. Most of the times I just start to draw, without planning what I'm going to do, even if I know it isn't the best thing to do. All of the sketches above could and should be developed much further. I should "puch it" as far as I can. If I can manage to change my bad habit for this good one, it will do me great (and to my drawings!).

Figure drawing sessions... (7)

A little struggle to draw figures today. This might be the only one I find interesting.
Finally, looking back, this second drawing has got something I kind of like too...

Figure drawing sessions... (6)

I hope I'll manage to go to both of my figure drawing sessions this week. These are the sketches I did this morning. (It was 5-15 minutes sittings.)
