Red apples...

Studies of apples done with my students this spring...
They still think it's difficult to render an apple and to see what I see. I mainly tell them too search for shadows and then see the level of the light parts. If the apples are dark it can be difficult not to start too dark in the light, so to avoid that go lighter and for the darks you should watch out not to make the red too brownish. Also that you take the right tube of red, primary reds can be tricky to mix what we usually call red.  You might have to buy a red that is as close as possible to the red of the subject. I woulds say ; "no rules, start looking". With the mixing methods I teach they should be able to identify and mix the color they need, or if not the case they will soon.
